WhoIs Lite

WhoIs Lite is is written in Visual Basic and so you will need the VB runtime dlls too. The whole lot is packaged up below as both a zip file and a self extracting zip file. If you know what a zip file is and have a utility to extract it use that one otherwith download the self extracting version.

Once you have downloaded the file run the setup.exe file and WhoIs Lite will be installed. If you have any trouble email me.

whoislite.zip Download zipped Whois Lite. You'll need WinZip or another file compression utility to unzip the file

whoislitezip.exe Download self extracting Whois Lite. This file will self extract but some browsers may not let you download this...

Revision History

I don't expect this to be a long list... but if there is a significant change this is the place it'll be listed.

  • v1.2.3 - Current version
    8th April 2006
Added support for .it .us .it .cn domains.
  • v1.2.0
    7th April 2006
    Added support for .eu domains.
  • v1.1.5
    26th March 2006
First published version - nothing exciting to report.

Future Developments

  • v1.3.n
    Soon
TLD / WhoIs servers will be defined in a config file so new TLDs can be added without installing the application again.
Support for all TLDs (as many as possible) will be added.
  • v2.n.n
    Quite soon
Application will be ported to .NET to make the install lighter.

Visual Basic, really? Yes, I know, you have to install the run time files but its the language I am happy with. I intend porting it to VB.Net soon so the install will be lighter but there is always something more exciting to do (like chase domains...).

WHOIS (pronounced as the phrase who is) is a query/response protocol that is widely used for querying databases in order to determine the registrar or assignee of an Internet resource (such as a domain name, an IP address block, or an autonomous system number)..
